Mango Dal / Mamidikaya Pappu

My favorite among all the dals. Easy to cook and a treat to anyone who enjoys a little tangy flavor :)

Ingredients:

1. Toor Dal (1 cup)

2. Raw Mango (1 cup)

3. Onions(1)

4. Green Chillies(3-4)

5. Red Chilli powder

6. Salt

9. Tadka (Garlic, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies, aestofida)

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 15 mins

Method:

1. Wash the dal and take it in a pressure cooker. Add sliced green chillies and onions to the dal. Add 3 cups of water. Allow it to pressure cook for 3 whistles.

2. In a sepeate vessel, take the cut mango pieces and glass of water and boil the mango pieces. ( I usually take the mango pieces in a smaller vessel and pressure cook it with the dal)

3. Now, once the dal is ready, add the mango pieces, 1 spoon salt, 1spoon chilli powder and mix well.

4. Taste for salt, tangy flavour and spice. Add according to taste. If the mango didnt suffice the tangy flavour. You can add a lil tamarind paste to your dal.

5. Now take a spoon of ghee and a spoon of oil in a vessel heat it. add the tadka ingredients and wait for the cumin to splutter.

6. Now add this tadka to your dal and mix well.

7. Add chopped coriander and serve with papads and rice :)
